What you need to do:

To get married on Kauai, you must both be present and have government-issued photo IDs. You can get a marriage license at Lihue courthouse. Can start application online.

Department of Health – Electronic Registration System (ehawaii.gov) emrs.ehawaii.gov

Here is the addresses and phone numbers of county courthouse:

County of Kauai:
Office: 808-241-3498
State Department of Health
District Health Office, Kauai
3040 Umi Street
Lihue, Hawaii 96766-1356

Courthouses are open from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Please call ahead to confirm hours.

A marriage license costs $65 cash. There is no blood test or waiting period, but the marriage must be performed within 1 year. There are no witnesses required.

Bring your marriage license to the ceremony.

The marriage license is a legal document that allows you to get married. It must be signed by both of you and by the officiant. I will complete the license and get the signatures at the ceremony. I will then mail it back to the courthouse, or you can return it yourselves in person. It is important to return the license within 3 days of the ceremony, or your marriage will not be valid.

Get a copy of your marriage certificate.

Your marriage certificate is a record of your marriage. It is different from your marriage license, which is the document that allows you to get married. You will need your marriage certificate to change your name, notify the social security administration, for life insurance purposes, and more. You can get a copy of your marriage certificate from Hawaii Department of Health for an additional per-copy fee of $15. You can request it in person, via mail, or online
